NYS Deferred Compensation Planning in Central New York
Your NYS Deferred Compensation Plan is often the most flexible money you have in retirement. It can fill the gap before Social Security, pay for Roth conversions, and cover big expenses without touching your pension. I help New York State and local government employees decide what to do with it, before and after they retire.
What I help you decide
-
Whether to leave it in the plan, take withdrawals, or roll it over
-
How much to take each year, and from which account
-
How it fits with your NYSLRS pension option and Social Security timing
-
Whether Roth 457 contributions or Roth conversions make sense for you
-
How to use the catch-up years before you retire
Why it matters
457(b) money has no early-withdrawal penalty once you leave your job, at any age. Roll it into an IRA too soon and that flexibility can be gone. It’s one of the retirement decisions that’s hard to undo.
Who I work with
Married couples in Central New York who are within five years of retirement or newly retired. Many have a NYS pension and deferred comp. I’m a fee-only fiduciary and RICP, I earn no commissions, and I meet face to face in Chittenango.
